Dualboot LM11 & PCLinuxOS: grub2 [SOLVED]
Do you guys dualboot with any thing else with PCLinuxOS? I'd love to use it, but it totally borked my hard drive's partition table and I had to reinstall everything!
EDIT: This is now solved, the issue with the partition table was because I let PCLOS do its partitioning, but next I just used gparted in LM11 to set things up before hand and it worked just fine.
To allow grub2 and 1 to work together, please refer to http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 29#p421029. The most important things to remember are as following:
1) Do it from the OS where you installed the bootloader onto /dev/sda.
2) Choose the correct partition! msdos1 = sda1, msdos2 = sda2 ... etc.

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I do -- multi-booting several distros, including PLCOS.thouartsimple wrote:Do you guys dualboot with any thing else with PCLinuxOS?
Re: Distros of interest and why.
I currently just have one OS per machine but I think there might be instructions in the PCLinuxOS wiki that might help.Do you guys dualboot with any thing else with PCLinuxOS? I'd love to use it, but it totally borked my hard drive's partition table and I had to reinstall everything!

as they use different grub v. the "secret" is install PCLOS's grub in the partition (it's fairly simple in the installer);
then boot into LMDE (in my case) and make a 40_costum entry (/etc/grub.d/40_custom) - as root -
here it looks like this
after this update grub, reboot, and in the end of your entries you should see a "grub 1 bootloader", it's PCLOScat /etc/grub.d/40_custom
#!/bin/sh
exec tail -n +3 $0
# This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. Simply type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment. Be careful not to change
# the 'exec tail' line above.
menuentry "Grub 1 Bootloader" {
set root=(hd0,msdos2)
chainloader +1
}

Re: Distros of interest and why.
OK, I tried that but there is no Grub 1 Bootloader entry in my GRUB2. Here is what I've got...
EDIT: LM11 Katya is on sda1 which is my primary OS.
Thanks.

Re: Distros of interest and why.
thouartsimple,
let's see:
your os-prober gives you PCLOS in sda9;
and you have the 40_custom entry pointed to (hd0,msdos2);
it should look like this

Changing it didn't work, still didn't give me the option...zerozero wrote:thouartsimple,

Re: Distros of interest and why.
Yes. Since I have two hard drives, both sata and the primary is /dev/sda the secondary is /dev/sdb does that matter?

Re: Distros of interest and why.
I fixed it. This is embarrassing. I forgot that LMDE XFCE edition was the last thing I installed, so that controlled GRUB... so I went in there and did it and it worked.
Thanks!

Re: Dualboot LM11 & PCLinuxOS: grub2 [SOLVED]
@zerozero,
So here I was with Linux Mint as my main OS, Chakra 2011.09 in one test partition and the latest PCLinuxOS in the other which absolutely refused to cooperate with Mint's Grub2 boot loader and vica-versa. So after bouncing all over the interweb looking for an answer, who provides it? Got a bit of a chuckle out of it at least and a fix for that lousy legacy grub. Thanks much!
