Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
Hi, I'm a Win7 64 user but I'm currently trying alternative OSes like Linux; After reading around in the Net, Linux Mint seems the most friendly for new users like me.
Since I prefer to do a trial Install of it, I downloaded VirtualBox by Oracle, the latest version.
Since I'm fairly new to VMs I pretty much left most settings at default except for the memory allocation, Create new Hard Disk and other settings that I have to set.
Now whenever I try to boot the ISO, and select the appropriate choice this happens.
http://www.imageupload.org/?d=DD3F321D1
Selecting Linux Mint,
Linux Mint Compatibility Mode
Memory Test results in the error above.
My specs are
HP Dm1z netbook
E-350 @ 1.6ghz
HD 6310 (384 allocated Memory)
2gb RAM 1.6 usable
320gb Sata HDD
AMD-V is enabled in BIOS.
Please let me know if there are other things that I missed and I'll post it.

Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
When you create the VM did you chose a Linux Distro and Ubuntu type VM for Mint?
Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
No since Linux Mint is not available in the list;
So I've tried the nearest choices which are
Ubuntu 2.6(Linux Mint 11 is based on Ubuntu right?)
Or
Linux then Others
I can boot it off a USB but for various reasons like School purposes I need to be able to switch between both.

Mint is based on Ubuntu.
How much RAM are you giving Mint? For Mint 64bits you should use at least 512MB or even 768MB. You should also try without AMD-V enabled.

Yes I'm allocating 512mb, I'll try 768mb this time.
But according to Oracle Virtual Box I need AMD-V to emulate 64bit OSes...
I'll also try disabling that this time and will post results.

Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
For a VM with so little RAM you should use 32-bit.
Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
I'll be adding RAM soon so that won't be a problem unless the problem as to why Linux Mint won't install is lack of RAM.
As you suggested I turned off AMD-V in BIOS and Allocated 800mb RAM for linux.
Linux Mint didn't boot since 64bit OS requires the AMD-V but I tried it anyway for reasons above.
I've also tried Mint4Win and I get stuck at a prompt with the Black screen and a blinking _ whenever I try booting from it.
Still no luck.

Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
If you don't have the 32-bit version you have to use the AMD-V. Can you try the 64-bit version with 800MB of RAM?
Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
While I did not mention that I don't have a 32bit ISO of it, I believe I did mention I was installing 64bit...
Never mind,
Tried with AMD-V enabled and 800mb RAM however i was getting the same error as the picture in my first post.
I actually want to post the whole error log but I don't know how or at least I can't drag the screen up(If this is even possible in VirtualBox) to take a snap shot of the error from start to finish.
Have to go to school, I'll be downloading VMware, and Linux Mint 11 32bit although the next time I can post results is either 14 hours from now or maybe tomorrow morning GMT+8
Thanks for taking the time to help me troubleshoot anyway.

Okay Still didn't bother installing VMPlayer but I did download Linux Mint 11 32bit.
Still getting the same error as seen above.
I don't know what's wrong here.

Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
Hey man, is this the one you downloaded?
linuxmint-11-gnome-dvd-64bit.iso (The 64bit-DVD on this page http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php "The full-featured standard version" or whatever?)
Double check for that iso, is the MD5 hash = 773b6cdfe44b91bc44448fa7b34bffa8
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit right now, and I recently used Oracle VM Virtualbox (ver. 4.0.8 r71778) to boot and install the 32 bit version, but I can try 64 bit too...

Sorry for the late reply, Hectic schedule prevented me from checking replies here.
The one I got are Linux Mint 11 katya DVD version 32bit
010bad6bf2bb58f61fea8e437366576c - Hash verified with igorware
and
Linux Mint 11 katya NO Codecs CD Version
f7ba8582b319eeda33636bf2b39546a3 - Hash verified with igorware
Still haven't got an extra stick of RAM for other reasons but no problem with the downloaded ISOs.
By the way, both works on my Athlon II 240 + Nforce 430 Desktop with 2gb RAM.

Re: Linux Mint 11 64bit on VirtualBox in Win7 64bit
This appears to be a VirtualBox bug on AMD E-350 systems.
There is an existing bug ticket:
http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/8824
I have used KVM to install Win64 successfully, and others have reported VMWare working.
Good luck!
