Hello,
I am facing unusual problem with slow boot up in many of my log in. 1 boot out of 3/4 times found to be so slow that it takes more than 8-10 minutes to free up the process and even I hardly be able to move my mouse in those boot. I have set up few startup applications for example skype, pidgin, evolution mail, glx dock, screenlets (for clock) and I have also installed pysdm for auto mount my ntfs drives but they boot up fast enough in most of my logging in. Is there any way to track which of my startup item is causing the unusual slow boot (if so) as I have installed "bootchart" and found no use from it.

Re: Slow boot up
Suspect RAM as a possibility, you can use the Memtest if you have it on your GRUB menu, or run the Memtest 86+ 4.20 boot disk to check... http://www.memtest.org/ download - http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
How's your cooling on your system, and the dust levels? I mean, it could be a lot of things... the hard drive of course also....
OR, maybe you just need to reinstall GRUB and/or Mint.... you never know until you back up your data/system and try....
