OK, first with the obvious questions;-
Did you check the MD5 after you downloaded the .iso image?
Did you burn at the slowest speed your software supports?
Did you verify the disk after burning?
Have you tried to build a bootable USB stick instead - my preferred option?

OK, assuming you have done all those, once you get the Live desktop up, can you please open a terminal and type;-
$ hardinfo
If this gives you an error that it can't be found then install it from the package manager and do it again. Generate a report - you don't need the 'Benchmarks', but the rest of it can be useful so save the .html file to a floppy disk or e-mail it to yourself at the moment.

Run the installer again, but expand the little arrow towards the bottom of the installer window. This will allow you to see what is going on and if it freezes at a particular point could well help to diagnose the issue.

You open a terminal window and type "hardinfo". Or you can get to it through the menus - "System Tools" / "System Profiler and Benchmark"

Greetings, I'am totally new to linux, however I don't think that I should open a new thread for my questions. I'm trying to install Linux mint 11 on my laptop which already has windows xp on it, on another partition. So I'm going to ask about the information provided here:

What about this? What exactly should I check?
