[SOLVED] removing Mint 10 from dualboot config with Mint 11

Post by cloggyjohn »

Is there a simple way to remove Mint 10 from a dualboot configuration with Mint 11 and use the freed space for the latter or do I have to do a clean install of Mint 11 ? As I'm a newbie to Linux answers in words of one syllable please and as simple as possible. Thanks in advance.

This depends very much on your partition layout.

Removing one partition can lead to unbootable Linux OS.

IN order to see how your partition layout is you could on terminal type two commands and post results of
1. sudo fdisk -l
2. sudo parted -l print

or take a snapshot of gparted showing the partition layout and indicate which is Mint 10 and which is Mint 11

anyway, the easier thing to do is just reinstall your preferred version.
deleting one partition is slightly more complicated, you might want to read this recent post on how it was done just so you know what is involved, even thou your situation is different.

Thanks for the swift reply Wayne. Looking through the topic you mentioned it sounds as though a clean install is the quickest and safest option.
