Disk Encryption while Installing Linux Mint

Postby snooke02 on Sun Dec 16, 2007 6:33 pm

Hi Mint-Friends,

is just want to know if there is a possibility to encrypt my /(root)-Partition while Installing Linux Mint (Daryna)?

As far i figured out it isn't possible.

Do you know any software which makes it possible to encrypt the whole disk with a windows and linux partition?

Thank you very much!

Best regards.

There used to be a sticky about this, but I can't find it. Some posts in the forum has been partly corrupted and this may be one of them
This is really frustrating....
You are now among my posts and I'll see it later and try to find a solution

Sorry, my english is very bad. And i cannot understand your further posting.

is there a way of encrypting the root-partition? after/while installing? i don't want to go the complicated way with live cd and several partitions and loading modules and scripts and so on.

Thank you very much!

Best regards.

Sorry
I can not find an older post about this, which I need for the answer, but I will search for it.
Truecrypt may be an alternative

Truecrypt is not really an alternative. Because it hasn't the potential to encrypt my whole / (root) partition. As far as I know with truecrypt you only can encrypt folders and make virtual encrypted partitions.
I need also an pre-boot-authentication.

THX.

I think there is only one way to encrypt your root patition...

1st) You download the Ubuntu Alternate Edition
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Activate the "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer."-Box

2nd) You install Ubuntu to your desktop i mean you can activate Diskencryption...

3rd) You edit your source.list:
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=7455

4th) tHen you istall all the good mint-stuff

We had something about this but unfortunately the search in the new forum is no good.
One of the things that need attention and hopefully will be solved...

First thank you very much for your help.

But I don't want to use ubuntu :( i wanna have a complete mint desktop (configured) and also a splash and grub screen :).
Maybe I just have to wait for the new version of TrueCrypt (for windows will come a pre-boot-authentication).
and if don't I have to make it the hardcore way with a mini-debian in my swap-partition and copying the partition to and fro.

Best regards.
