cant boot off cd?!

hi i am new to linux mint and would like to try it out on my computer but i put in the cd and boot off it but i get this error:

/bin/sh : can't access tty : job control turned off

and then it just sits there.....

what should i do... i have ubuntu running on the system and it booted and installed fine
