Compaq F500 no desktop

Morning folks. I tried to install Daryna on my sons Compaq F500. The CD boots an goes though configuration but the the screens goes black and nothing else. There is no sound from the CD drive or any response from the machine. Kubuntu 7.10 runs fine but he wanted to try Mint. I run it well on a HP A6009N and it works great. Any ideas? Or is there an alternate install CD available?

AMD Sempron
1.5 gis ram
Nividia 6150 chipset

Thanks Tried the vga=792 and no g, but typed in vga=792 and noapic nolapic booted and I am now installing the system. Thanks
