Reinstall Linux Mint from the terminal

Postby jsblackmaro on Tue Dec 25, 2007 12:35 pm

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I have been playing with Linux Mint for a few days, and I must say I love it!!! I have one issue. I installed the Ubuntu ATI Driver for my laptop, and I rebooted, and now when it loads, All see is the terminal. I log in, and try the sudo startx, and it says fatal error, no screens found. I did everything I could to get it to work, with no luck

I have just decided to reinstall Mint all together, and start all over. (Typical windows talk!!) How can I reinstall Mint from the terminal since I cant see the Gui!!!

I tried to run the LIVE CD again, and it brings me to the desktop, with the mouse but nothing else.

Please help!!!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi

"I tried to run the LIVE CD again, and it brings me to the desktop, with the mouse but nothing else"

Have you reset the bios so first boot device is CD?

Also before you re-install
At the terminal try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"
and follow instructions

If that fails, try "sudo envy -t"
and then the above

This did not work.. It said it was over writing something, and could not.

I tried this, and reinstalled the ATI driver. No dice. I removed the ATI driver, no dice. I did ATI manually, and choose the new legcy option. It rebooted, and WHAM!! I got my GUI!!! What happened? I did install quake 4? Could that of caused my issue? I tried to remove it, but I was not lucky!! I did sudo apt-get remove quake4, but It couldnt find it. Thats a whole other issue.

THANKS FOR GETTING ME BACK TO MY GUI!!!!

Have a wonderful holiday!!
