Okay giving mint a tryout on a spare computer but...

I am having a glitch when installing applications that bothers me, you see I am no newcommer to linux and have been using it for years now but my issue comes from getting new apps in synaptic.
It seems like my system well, hiccups after I install new apps and junk... the system freezes and gnome becomes unresponsive.
Now this computer has plenty of memory (one gig) and Mint is installed on this computer so that is not the issue so what in the spoot is going on here?

I'm not having system freezes nor total gnome lockup but... sometimes after i install a program with synaptic my daryna menu will not respond for a good minute or so.. i had and also heard people had similar problems in celena and mintmenu was supposedly in need of rewriting.
