User $home/.dmrc file is being ignored

"User $home/.dmrc file is being ignored"

Can someone please explain to me why this message keeps coming up?

A couple of times it came up in Daryna and after following all the topics on this subject without success, I finally ended up reinstalling Daryna again (I couldn't even get into my /home directory). I changed monitors on my wife's Celena, and there it came up on her computer, although; the topics on this subject fixed hers.

What is changing owners and permissions on these systems? :?

User $home/.dmrc file is being ignored

This is because "somehow" the owner and/or permissions of your home folder is changed and it is a serious message, actually one of the worst errors you can get.
Some basics here

a bit more "technical" here

and simple solution for many here

This is good stuff thank you...It seems that I was using 'Nautilus' as root ( sudo Nautilus) to quickly maneuver to some folders, (I'm a slow typer) and that was the culprit.

Thanks again. It might be good to make this 'gksudo. kdesu' a sticky thing.

possible simple graphical solution:
right click on file /home/user
click on tab "permissions"
there are 3 main sections here, Owner Group and Others
Image
under "Others", change folder access to "Access files"
mine had changed (for some unknown reason) to "create and delete files"
(leave Owner and Group as "create and delete files").
reboot to see if it has worked.

this seemed to work to fix my problem with $home/.dmrc file being ignored.

I found the explanation on permissions at http://www.zzee.com/solutions/linux-permissions.shtml useful.
Still do not really understand how it got changed in the first place and this is a bit concerning.
