Linux Mint 9

Post by vsbladz »

My Internet browsing experience is not as expected. Don't know what to do.
This is what's happening.
1. When I drag any window across my desktop, I can see it trailing and flickering.
2. Web browsing is very slow. Meaning, Page loading feels sluggish.
3. Applications feel sluggish and clumsy when dragging, minimizing or maximizing.
4. YouTube is choppy...but not as much. not too bad.

My PC Spec.
EMachine!! I know I know...
2.8mhz Celeron Processor.
1.5G Ram

Any Ideas? Maybe install a lighter Linux? But what would be current as well as extremely lightweight?
Thanks Guys

Yeah... a light install might be a good idea. Could try the mint lxde version - its a bit lighter than gnome, which might speed things up.

You can install it alongside you're gnome desktop (don't need to reinstall).

I'm not on mint now, but you should be able to just search lxde (I did for KDE on mint 11 and that worked... so I'm making guesses here) in the package manager, mark it for install, then at login select lxde instead, and use that.

Other ultra-light weight distro's include:

Out of these, I've only used puppy, but I loved that. Its really really fast - revived an ancient laptop before something hardware related blew up lol
