Mint 11

When I run Update manager, most of the refresh list come through as failed. Many of these include "translation-en".
This leads me to believe that my sources.list is faulty.
Is there a "model" list available somewhere?

I have the default sources.list, as from after installation without additions. Check your sources.list with:

I checked your list.

There is only one difference between my list and yours, I have backports listed.

But when I reload the packages list, most of the activity reads:
failed 0 B translation-en http....

there are a few hits and dones.

What is happening? And why so many lines of failed?

But I dont see much difference in the responses from Update manager.

Hmmm. I don't get it; this update went without problems, and it should be doing the same updates as the Update Manager and it also uses sources.list (both are just a front-end to the actual package manager). What else is the Update Manager doing, and why, that is failing? Can you do a screenshot from the errors in Update Manager?

This is quite tricky, but I got a small sample of it -

it reads almost the same as the apt-get, except apt-get uses ign instead of failed.

Ign means the repository was read, but not changes were found (so it can be ignored). Failed really means the repository could not be fetch

Erm, yeah Failed is not the same as Ign, the latter is normal and just means the repository hasn't changed so no need downloading it. If your Update Manager is giving failed response, that means it could not download anything from the repository to check if it had changed or not. I have no clue why that should happen to Update Manager, but not to apt-get update (and even apt-get upgrade works fine).

What is wrong? I don't know From apt-get update results, Update Manager should just work...

I have temporary uncomment the removed lines in my sources file.
Probably server down.
