Display server restart error

Postby dork5002002 on Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:07 am

I have:
computer model: HP Pavillion a6109n
CPU: AMD athlon 3800+
RAM: 2gig DDR2
Graphics card: ATI radion HD ....2400 pro (I haven't installed the drivers for it yet, just using drivers that windows defaults to. I also am not sure if it is 2400)

I have installed windows XP professional and Vista Business, and I am now trying to install Linux as a 3rd boot.
When I try to install I can select install then it begins to display various messages. Eventually it has an error saying that the display server has restarted more 6 times in the past 90 seconds. I've tried safe display mode and a vga=771 boot option and a friend told us to do a start xconfig command.
This has all been done with 2 different linux mint CD's(both 4.0) and an ubuntu 7.10 CD that I had mailed.
They all have the same errors, except Ubuntu gets a little further because it starts with a different sequence than Mint.

Could anyone help, I really would like to try Linux Mint on my machine.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Welcome to Mint dork5002002
Even if you've managed to boot the live CD I think it's a bad CD
Have you checked the md5sum and burned slowly?
In Windows you need to install some third party program to check md5.
Google for it and remember it's for the entire ISO that the sum is to be calculated
Oh - the chipset is good to know

I can't get the chipset right now since I am not at the computer I posted about.
I didn't actually get to the liveCD.
I was tired when I posted, so I actually meant the installation option at the first boot menu that allows you to get to the liveCD.
I know the CD's weren't corrupted because I used them to install on another computer earlier today.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
