problem installing

Hi!
I am really new to Linux and i have a problem with Linux Mint 4.0. When i try to install it i only get a black screen. Tried to add "acpi=off" to the startupline, and then i got alittle bit further. I can see the mouse-pointer but then it starts to beep and nothing more happens, all i can do is move the mouse around. But the Live-CD works on my friends computer without any problems at all...

Does anybody have a idea what the problem can be?
