Possible to install Linux on an existing software raid?

Post by coopacaloo »

I have a software raid of 4 drives. Today I run an older Ubuntu version.
Time has come to change distro and I would like to use Mint 12.

Is there a way I can install mint without messing up the software raid?

I mean I had trouble setting that up in the first place and would really like to avoid messing with the raid and just install Mint without formatting or destroying that software raid.

What raid do you have?? RAID1 or RAID10 or what??
From my information GRUB2 can boot only from RAID1[at least /boot partition].
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta ... ftwareRAID
Warning: the /boot filesystem cannot use any softRAID level other than 1 with the stock Ubuntu bootloader. If you want to use some other RAID level for most things, you'll need to create separate partitions and make a RAID1 device for /boot.

BACKUP is really recommended !
