I am running Daryna KDE on a Celeron 866, it should be using generic i386 or i686 kernel, but when I logon another session (ctrl-alt-F2) is said 2.6.22-14 generic #1 SMP, I did not compile the kernel I just use the default, how come SMP ?? is this the reason it is running very sluggish ?

I think what you are seeing is that the kernel has the ability to run duel core processors. You can open up Synaptic to make sure that you have the correct kernel running.
