Mint Grome stalling at cd setup

i've been using ubuntu for some time, tried to load on mint (grome) but stalls at setup. I've downloaded mint 4.0 from a number of different sights but encounter same problem at setup. I boot from CD, then up comes the part where the options are to install. that's as far as it goes. there is no countdown numbers, the options don't move. all i get is a beep sound out of my laptop. My specs are Toshiba M200 laptop, core2 duo, 1500 ram etc. It's a new model. I have no problem loading Mint KDE or any of the ubuntu programs.

sorry, been away. answer to your quesion above, NO. I can't even get to that stage. It starts to load up from CD, get almost there then freezes.

Is this the current beta or an older version?
ATI video by any chance?
This does not ring any bells
To be sure, have you checked the md5sum and burned slowly?
