Hangs at first startup after installation solved

I'm new to LinuxMint (have used Ubuntu so far) and just installed Daryna instead. The installation went very fine, but when booting from the hard disk, LinuxMint hangs. The splash screen just turns up and the statusbar completes ~5%, then nothing happens.

Any idea what the problem can be?

Can you see grub at all?
Dual booting?
Macbook?

Yes, GRUB starts. I'm dual booting (Win + Linux). So, LinuxMint starts up and the splash screen (with the status bar) appears, but it stops after a very short while. Then nothing happens.

It's a desktop PC, ASRock 775i65G motherboard.

Do you use the built in graphics?
Not that I think it's that but it is a possible culprit

Yes, I use the built-in graphics card. Unfortunately, I don't have another one to try with. I'll see if I can borrow one from someone.

BTW, could this be solved by waiting for the next release of Mint? Maybe extended/better HW support in the next release?

I have also tried now to install Celena, but the result is the same.

This could be that gfxgrub is not working
I think what you could start with is to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
comment out the line
menu=/etc/grub/message.mint
add ## at the beginning.

Well not from the not starting Mint
But you can do it if you boot the live CD.
If disks don't get mounted star gparted and they will be...

In /boot/grub/menu.lst I had to change root=/dev/hda8 to root=/dev/sda8. Don't know why but it works.

sda is the current for pata and sata
hda is outdated, but I thought it would work....

OK, I have tried now.

Commenting away the gfxgrub line didn't work, but changing root=/dev/hda1 to /dev/sda1 did work!

Think it's a glitch somehow - I have not seen much of this, just a few instances
