Serious problems installing on Abit IP35-E

I tried installing LInux mint 4.0 on the following config

Core 2 Duo E6550
Abit IP35-E (Jmicron controller)
2GB ram
2 Seagate SATA HDDs
LG DVD Writer

One common error i always get is error setting xfer mode 0x04. It occurs randomly, and when it does, it just freezes there. I could install it after great difficulty, but again the problem persists. Also, the system actually boots only if i use noacpi, noapci options. I really don't know what the problem is. Sometimes, it just freezes showing errors related to USB.

I have tried changing all options related to my hdd, and dvd in bios, but still no avail. I want to know if this is a common problem. If so, which other distro should i chose.

P.S : i have installed it thrice, using three different CDs. So i'm sure there is no problem in that. Also, win xp works just fine.

What gpu?
You could try safe graphics mode.
You could try unplugging one hd (I had to do this once only it was a sata/eide mess.)
I hope its not the p35 chip, I'm considering getting one of those boards.

Problem solved. Seems like my device id's were messed up, so grub couldn't load from the specified partition.

@noclue, yes its p35 based. Worth every single dime you spend on it

what exactly did you do im on a p35 pro and installer gives some error saying my dvd or harddrive is bad like 40% installed
