Venture into deep water: UUIDs!

Postby T J Tulley on Sun Feb 17, 2008 8:23 pm

Trying to discover why I get incorrect mounts, I edited /etc/fstab in Daryna after backing it up - I commented out all the UUIDs and uncommented the sdxxs - didn't work so restored it from a terminal safe boot offered by Supergrub. I feared I might have to re-install but it re-booted OK.

Next, I would like to try adding a UUID, hoping to mount sdc1 in Celena - at present it appears only as a commented line, no UUID is given.

How can I find a value to insert there? I've read the Wikimint - brief and not comforting!

Alternatively, I believe there are ways of specifying mounts in grub - but the manual doesn't explain how.
Yours hopefully -

Theo Tulley.

sudo vol_id -u device

Will display the UUID for a device (if you require the value)

Are you able to post fstab?
Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once.
