Unable to boot Linux Mint 12

Postby grumpy.biatch on Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:11 am

Hi,

I installed Linux mint on /dev/sda4 (50GB) with /. During install it went on to import settings from other OS and it failed to import stuff from FreeBSD, I am not sure whether it is relevant or not. My disk order is messed up, I am booting Windows and FreeBSD off SUSE grub legacy. SUSE on sda5 becomes (hd2,4) during boot and Mint becomes (hd2,3) during the boot.

When I choose to boot with different parameters from grub, I am not getting errors such as 15/17/22 but the boot hangs or idles; the screen goes dull, doesn't display any errors on console 1. I see boot parameters and starting up... text. The grub-PC was not installed properly, I used live cd, chrooted into Mint (sda) and installed grub-legacy. After grub-update it generated menu.lst, I copied boot parameters based on UUID but it still fails. I am not sure if its takes a long time to boot or what happens there. My hardware is good with BIOSTAR TA790GXE-128M, AMD Phenon II X6, 8 GB DDR2 RAM and NVIDIA GPU.

Next on other box with ASUS M5A97,16GB DDR3 ram, Phenom II X6, XFX NVIDIA the installer dies at stage 2 right after keyboard selection.

Can someone please help sort this.

Thanks!
