Need Note Taking Suggestions - Found Something

Postby Fajah on Fri Aug 17, 2012 10:41 am

I'm currently using Simplenote via Chromium on my PC, and Glance Note on my Android phone. Both programs sync well with each other. After installing Mint 13 KDE, I'm started using KNotes on my desktop and really like it. However, it doesn't sync with my Android phone.

Any suggestions on programs for note taking on the desktop that will sync with an android phone?

Thanks in advance.

After searching around, I found that the Chrome (Chromium) extension Scratchpad works very well for basic note taking and creating To Do lists. It sinks to Google Drive and can be accessed/synced via my Android phone. Once launched, you don't need your browser to be opened at all times.

Firefox addons:
QuickFox Notes
Supports GoogleDocs, SimpleNote, HeliPad, Dropbox and SugarSync and a Local Disk option I guess could use a /mnt/ or /media...

Toodledo.com (w\FF addon)

and my new stand-by editor Sublime Text2

Fajah,

You can take a look at Tomboy. It can be synchronized through e.g. Ubuntu One with your Android.
On the device you will need Tomdroid. Check the developers website, because the version in the Play Store is not the most recent one and does not allow you to edit your notes.

Plus one for Sublime text 2, It's become one of my favorite text editors. As far as note taking that syncs to all devices, I have found nothing that compares to Springpad (including Evernote). Have it in all my browsers and on my Android phone and Galaxy tab. I use it for note taking, bookmarking, shopping lists etc and it works very well and is feature packed. http://springpad.com/#!/

I cannot get Tomboy to synchronise with Ubuntu One. I was previously using Ubuntu but switched to Mint 13, and with Ubuntu One installed and Tomboy, I cannot synchronise with Ubuntu One. I do not even see any option for it in the plug ins or Preferences.

How do I get Tomboy to synchronise with Ubuntu One?
Buy someone something for them online once and they will be happy for a day. Get them to get their own Internet connection and they will be happy for the rest of their life.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried a few of them in the past.

1) Tomboy: Works fine on the desktop, but Tomdroid is a read only app. That won't work for me.
2) Sublime: Looks like you have to buy a license, which is something I wouldn't do for simple note taking.
3) Toodledo: Looks interesting. Going to try that out.
