cannot start Wine and Office in Wine anymore

Postby Liza on Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:25 pm

I tried to talk Wine 1.3.15 (Mint 11) into using the right fonts with MS Office, and finally everything stopped working at all. So I marked Wine for "complete removal" in the Synaptic Package Manager. Uninstalled. Then marked the same thing (hopefully!) for installation and installed.

The Problem: Wine shows up in the Menu in "Applications" as category (other categories are , but there is nothing to run in this category. In the category "All" I found winetricks, previously it was in the "Wine" category, but now it isn't. What has gone wrong here, please?

Additon: I just discovered that I also cannot start MS Office Programs from the menu. Everything has gone wrong. (Is there a smiley for a huge crying fit somewhere?)

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I shut down the computer completely, then turned it on again. Now the "Wine" menu shows all the programs (Word etc.), but when I click on them, I get the error message "File not found". I think, MS Office is installed, but the links to the programs are somehow broken.

Could somebody probably tell me at least how to find the .exe files of MS Word and PowerPoint? I suppose there will be some somewhere?

If you uninstalled/reinstalled wine then you might need to reinstall Office. Otherwise, to find the .exe files, open your home dir and press <ctrl>+h to show the hidden files. open .wine and look in there.
