Why is Mint 12 acting slow for me?

Postby Sangero on Mon Apr 30, 2012 5:17 pm

I have recently installed Linux Mint 12 and so far I have noticed it can be very slow. I will be using the update manager for example and I find that it takes an extremely long time to download packages. That isn't the only thing being slow, yesterday when I was trying to install drivers using the additional driver app it was taking a long time to download, it got to a 25% in a matter of hours, so I decide to restart because the system slowed down way too much, so it never got to finish. The web also can at times be very slow. Sometimes websites load very fast and at other times it can be somewhat slow. For example, I could decide to go to google.com and that page will load up in a matter of a few seconds. Though if I try to go to facebook or youtube it would be significantly slower to the point that even my windows 7 is loading faster than it.

It generally gets so slow I do have to restart it at times because of the loading time. I just downloaded Linux Mint 12 yesterday, so I am fairly new to everything if anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

I am using a laptop that has a 1st Gen. i5 processor 2.7ghz that turbo boosts up to 3.3ghz, Nvidia 420m, and 8gb ddr3 RAM.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Wired or wireless internet? If wireless, and you have the option, please retry any of those actions that slowed down before while being connected to the internet wired. It may be just that you have a flaky driver for your wireless chip.

Please also run the following on the terminal, and share the output here. This tells other forum members a bit more about your setup.
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxc 0
