Thunderbird Notify Sound Gone

Mint 11. My Thunderbird sound on new mail was working fine until about a week ago. There were some regular updates, and at least one concerning TB, as I remember. Since getting that update, the sound plays no more. The settings are the same. Clicking Play to confirm the desired WAV file does not play it as it used to. Simply put, the latest TB update apparently broke the mail arrival sound function. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Using Thunderbird 12 the mail notification sound only works for me when Thunderbird is already open.
If you want to be notified that new mail is available I can recommend "mail-notification" which can also handle longer sound files. It is available via the Software Manager.

Thank you. I would simply like it to work as it always did, and as it should. Hopefully, another update will fix it, or someone will post a fix.

When I started watching this topic the sound did not work. Now it does. I followed the instructions from this link and dared to try the new:

It works marvelous in BodhiLinux and I did not find any bugs yet, but should I, then I'll be happy to report them.

For me the problem is solved. I like to thank all for their contributions.

Likewise, the new version of T'Bird seems very flawed and they do not seem overly anxious to fix it. Mine also went down after an update.

I looked at this. It seems to be a site to download both Firefox #13 and Thunderbird #13, and they both seem alpha versions, which means they are not fully developed. Why touch these when they can't even get the existing "new" version right?

It's weird. The sound and white-background notice which used to pop up in the lower right corner no longer works. Instead there is a dark (perhaps theme-based) message which appears in the upper right. Still, no sound will play. I wish it worked again like it always did in the older versions of Thunderbird. I am planning to upgrade to Mint 13 when it arrives, and hope it will work again. If not, I'll just have to keep hoping for some future update or change to fix it. I'm very surprised that no one else has mentioned it.
