Evolution v3.2.2; Mint-12; Cinnamon -- various troubles

Postby SaintDanBert on Thu May 10, 2012 4:17 pm

I'm having trouble with Evolution v3.2.2 and the Cinnamon desktop on Mint-12.

1. It crashes on SendMessage -- often enough to be a real bother.
2. It "stalls" -- something is happening under the covers, but ... ; the desktop still works;
I can do other things on the workstation; EVO eventually wakes up
3. In the compose window, cut & paste and other large edits do not properly refresh and redraw
the window contents. Fails for both text and html messages. Does not happen in other
"editors" such as emacs or gedit or LibreOffice.

Folks on the evolution listserv do not have these symptoms. I'm stumped how to discover
what is tarnation is going on.

Thinkpad laptop; intel i5 processor; intel "integrated" graphics (i915 driver).
For those who struggle with posting subject lines, I'm running EVO v3.2.2;
Mint-12 with all update available through mint-update; Cinnamon v1.4.0.

Grrrrr. Arrgghhhh. Thanks in advance,

I used pstree to see how things were stacked up.
Code: Select all
prompt$  sudo pstree

o o o
|-lightdm-+-Xorg
     |         |-gnome-session-+-applet.py
     |         |               |-blueman-applet
     |         |               |-cinnamon-+-chromium-browse-+-chromium-browse
     |         |               |          |                 `-18*[{chromium-brows}]
     |         |               |          |-evolution---4*[{evolution}]
     |         |               |          `-6*[{cinnamon}]
     |         |               |-deja-dup-monito---2*[{deja-dup-monit}]
     |         |               |-evolution-alarm---{evolution-alar}
     |         |               |-gdu-notificatio
o o o

As you can see from this fragment, evolution is clearly subordinate to cinnamon. Therefore I suspect that
cinnamon might be one contributor to the troubles I'm seeing?

One other item to note. Notice the fragment reports about chromium-browse... and friends.
There is another set of identical entries outside of and not connected with lightdm or
the resulting gnome-session. I have no idea why there would be two process trees
for chromium browser.

Thanks,
