Open files with MSOffice by default

Postby tcc on Fri May 11, 2012 11:21 am

Hi,

I have installed MSOffice 2010 (student edition) through Wine, it is working a-ok!

EXCEPT

When I click on a .docx file (for example) it does not want to open the file into Word.

I have messed around with the defaults.list and with the mimetypes.list, setting MIMETYPE=Microsoft Word 2010.desktop.... but to no avail.

I have so far got the file type to open the Word application, but only with a New File.

Im sure it is relativly simple, but I am still a bit of an amateur when it comes to this!!

Thanks,
Tom

Have you considered using OpenOffice or LibreOffice? I have a few .docx files that I have to access on a semi-reuglar basis, and both OO and LO open the .docx files without a problem, as with any other files that MSOffice generates, that I looked at. Both did so out of the box.

Hope that helps a bit.

Please right-click > Properties. Go to the Open With tab and put a mark before "A Wine Application".
