Looking for Seamless Money Management Software

Postby Doughbury on Sat May 12, 2012 4:18 pm

Hello all,

I have Linux Mint installed on the computers I use most often. I use Dropbox to sync files between all my computers, and I use Dropsync to sync files to my Android phone running Gingerbread. I would like to find a software solution that would allow me to do some basic money management stuff (like GnuCash or Grisby for example) and then sync the data file over to my phone where I can then review and edit the file when I'm out spending money. Any suggestions?

I recognize that there are cloud-based solutions like Mint.com and Clearcheckbook.com, and though they are pretty and slick, I don't care for cloud services. I'm paranoid and worried that despite my tin foil hat, the people running those services might one day say, "Eh, to Hell with this..." and shut off their servers and just leave me screwed. I would much rather have my data local where I can control it.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I would think the chances of your phone being lost or stolen are greater than the risks of using cloud services.

Which is why the data on my phone is either synced to another computer, or backed up regularly--where I can control it.
