seamonkey 1.1.8 not working under Mint 4.0 "KDE"

I installed seamonkey 1.1.8. It complained with:
Xlib: connectionto ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified


Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Please help me. Thank you!

This has to do with xauthority - so far I've only seen suggestions to run as root and that is something you should not do in general and particularly not with a web browser
