Shotwell recognizing camera? Mint 11 & Sony DSC-W350

Postby SunWorks on Tue May 15, 2012 2:25 pm

Hello Mint friends,

I have a friend set up using Mint 11 and they want to import their photos from a Sony DSC-W350 camera.

Currently am using Shotwell 0.11.6 and when the camera is turned on, the Nautilus home folder window opens up, but then the user has to make a decision from numerous folders. It's confusing for the user to say the least. It's enough to drive this user away from Mint towards something far less palatable (M$).

I have a machine running Mint 11, and when I plug my Canon Powershot A570 into the computer and turn it on, the Nautilus home folder opens up and (see attached screenshot) there is an option "Open Shotwell Photo Manager".

This is good. This is what I want for the Mint 11 box with the Sony DSC-W350 camera.

And advice how I can make Mint 11 Shotwell recognize the Sony DSC-W350 camera in a similar manner?

If I don't simplify this for the end user, it will be a sour moment, so I appreciate any and all help.

Thank you,
Clinton

Please check if the packages gphotofs and gphoto2 are installed.

Neither of those two were there, so I had her install them as I gave instructions over the phone. Afterwards she plugged the camera in and the Nautilus home folder window showed up, but no "Open Shotwell Photo Manager".

- this is according to what she said... I was not there to view it and I want to try all options before driving the 15 mile round trip. I'm having her re-boot now just to see if that helps, but I know this isn't Windows and hence do not expect re-booting to help.

Thank you.

How did you configure the "removable media" ?

Else, plug the camera in. Open the "places"-tab. Right-click on the camera-icon to assign a default-application to it.

Good luck!
