-Solved- Java applets sluggish and locking up

Postby CapnCrunk on Tue May 15, 2012 8:49 pm

I am experiencing a problem with web based java applets running sluggish and locking up on me. It was working fine until I installed the icedtea plugin by means of the
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install icedtea6-plugin
command. I was attempting to solve an audio problem (which was fixed by installing icedtea) but I've only seem to have a bigger problem now. I read that some parts of java may need to be deleted after install and they could be located by using Synapsis. But I don't know which ones to get rid of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

hi there. I would be inclined to use Oracle Java rather than OpenJava. So you may want to open Synaptic and search for openjava and remove its various components, which includes icedtea.
I install Java by downloading it from the Oracle site. But you should not need to do this. I suspect that Synaptic will automatically set you up with Java as an alternative to Open Java, but I am not sure.
