banshee - changing appearance

is there a way to make the banshee player in Mate look like on this picture?

No, that looks like the mediaplayer extension for cinnamon or gnome-shell.

There was something similar in GNOME2.* gnome-panel from Ubuntu, called 'indicator-applet'. Look for mate-indicator-applet in Package Manager.
