Cannot run Ubuntu One client in Maya

Postby 04odydude on Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:29 pm

I installed the Ubuntu ONe client according to the instructions in the post here:

viewtopic.php?f=47&t=104985

This worked for the user that posted it. But on my system when I select Ubuntu One from the Preferences menu I get a "busy" mouse pointer for about 5-10 seconds and then nothing happens. If I click the Ubuntu One icon in the System Settings control panel it does absolutely nothing that I can see. I also tried installing using the "Ubuntu ONe Installer" found in the Software Manager, but when I select the Ubuntu ONe menu item after that it just re-runs the installer. There really isn't a clear method to installing this software, as I've always had to guess at what to install in previous Mint editions (I started with 11) but I eventually got it to work. But not this time.

AMD 32-bit dual core processor (it's an HP Pavilion Slimline s3020n)
32-bit Cinnamon edition (does the same thing when I use the Gnome session, though)
Dual boot setup with the original Vista that came with the system
2GB RAM

Thank you in advance for anyone who may be able to help.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I'm going to assume either no one else uses Ubuntu One (I have found virtually nothing about it on this forum) or no one has this problem. I think it is most likely a permissions issue. I just have to figure out which folder it needs to have access to. When I restored my backed up files after upgrading to Maya, everything was set to root ownership. I had to go through and manually change ownership on everything I thought needed it (home folder, some applications). Other applications do this sort of thing when in need of permissions. It stands to reason that Ubuntu One does too. If I figure it out I'll post it here, just in case there is someone else who needs this.

Hi, I will try to install Ununto One in Maya later today and get back to you, managed to get it working in Lisa and there shouldn't be any problem using Ubuntu One in Maya either.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

I have Ubuntu One installed in Maya x64 and have downloaded previously purchased songs that I bought when running Mint 12 and previously Ubuntu 10.10. However, I can't see a way of using it to buy music as it doesn't integrate into Banshee or Rhythmnbox as far as I can see. Very disappointing. Is it just me or is it not possible to do this anymore?
