is it possible to get the unity-greeter(0.1.1-1linuxmint1) from mint 12 and install on mint 13?
i prefer the mint version its more easily configurable

Mint-specific packages (i.e. those that don't come directly from Ubuntu) can be found at http://packages.linuxmint.com.

The unity-greeter is for lightdm. Mint 13 uses MDM so you you can't just install the greeter on it's own, you'll need to switch to lightdm also I believe. When you say the mint version is more configurable are you referring to the MATE version as switching to lightdm will render this irrelevant.

i uninstalled the unity-greeter i had installed and went to install the .deb file with gdebi and it says

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libindicator3-6

what do i need to do?

@remoulder sorry forgot to mention i have lightdm installed. i dont like mdm

libindicator3-6 can be downloaded from http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/libindicator3-6 but I don't know if it runs on Mint 13.

I found that file googled it
Installed it
Something went wrong
Crashed system
Now won't even boot

Gonna reinstall

Ok, the greeter package is clearly not compatible with 13. Maybe you can somehow compile it from source on 13.

The unity-greeter will work but some unity libraries need to be installed also, am surprised these aren't pulled in as dependencies.

@jfuk86, libindicator shouldn't stop the system booting, also have you tried using the lightdm-greeter instead?
