Synaptic/Mint Update/Deborphan solved

Postby Texas_Mike on Tue Mar 18, 2008 5:19 pm

Hi all,

I am new to Mint, but not Linux. I am running Mint 4.0 KDE CE. I read over the LinuxMint 4.0 User Guide, but just so I don't hose my system, are the following true:

1. It is OK to use Synaptic to install New packages
2. You should Not use Synaptic to Update. Use Mint Update instead
3. It is OK to use "Aptitude purge $(deborphan)" from the CLI

Thank you.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

It's true all three
To be honest I've not used purge deborphan but it should be ok, but not a command that you use frequently :)
apt-get autoclean would be about the same

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
