messenger programs and media players

Postby marshatherton on Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:45 pm

hey guys, i just switched from windows to linux mint and i love it!

couple of questions, i used pretty frequently yahoo messenger, and aim, i see that linux mint has provided a program for that, but are there better ones? i dont need an all-in-one program, but i need a program that will support a web camera. does yahoo make one for linux?

also i was wondering what other media programs there are (i.e. something similar to itunes, because thats why i used) one came with linux, its good, but i was just seeing what other options there were.

thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

As for messenger I use Kopete, you can find it in your package manager. It will do AIM, Yahoo, MSN all in one. The yahoo part will support web cam but you have too install jasper I think the package is lib-jasper not 100% sure of the name but Kopete will tell you which one to install to support web cam.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
James

Sorry for the slow reply. If you open your package manager (mintmenu>package manager) once it loads click "search" and type in kopete then install it from there. It will show up under your "internet" menu. Just click and follow the on screen directions to set it up for yahoo, msn, aim which ever or all 3 if you like.

Hope this helps,
James
