Installing KTorrent 2.2.5

Postby stevenofnine on Thu Mar 20, 2008 8:26 pm

Hey all,

I downloaded the tar for 2,2,5, and execute the ./configure command. The output tells me that "C Compiler cannot create executables."

Anyone have my next step in mind?

Thanks Husse, got that tip at Ktorrent.org, too. Now I get:

Code: Select all
checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X libraries. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

I have no idea how to do this. Can anyone provide help?

Thanks.

//EDIT

OK, so I used:

Code: Select all
./configure --x-libraries=/usr/lib

And although the configure does this:

Code: Select all
checking for X... libraries /usr/lib,

...and although I can see libXext.so.6 et al in the lib folder, I still get:

Code: Select all
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find
them either.

Any suggestions?

Try:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install libxext-dev

And then do the ./configure again.

That solved an issue, then three more arose, each of which I installed material for... and that's about the limit of my patience. I'll wait for the official package upgrade. Thanks much to those whose Ideas got me as far as I did go.

Compilling from scratch has that issue, is not that simple. Keep an eye on getdeb.net, perhaps they upload a compiled package.

I need to ask, are you using GNOME? Then it could be a living hell to compile KTorrent, I would go for Transmission (lightweight GTK) or Deluge (alternative GTK) as you don't need the huge amount of libs with that... If not, my advise is: Patience young one, compiling is 1 part installing, 3 parts finding out you are missing 1223 dependencies :)

I agree with MagnusB. Transmission it's awesome, despite I thought it lost part of its charm with the UI redesign for the 1.0 launch.

I'm actually usually an Azureus user(2.5.0.4, I just replace the .jar file with an older one on install) and a Deluge suer, now. Az runs just fine on Linux machines, and Vista, unlike on Mac and X, and Deluge is sweet.

But I'm familiar with KTorrent, and just wanted to have options. Thanks!
