Removing with Synaptic locks me out of MintMenu

A search of the forums revealed this post, but I'm experiencing the same or a similar issue in Darnya. I notice it when I uninstall a package using Synaptic. After I do so, MintMenu goes dead (unresponsive to right- or left-clicks) for quite a while. Any thoughts?

Define "quite a while". Sometimes I notice a couple second lag when I install or remove programs, likely due to the menu re-loading installed apps, but it's never long enough to constitute an issue. 3 seconds max.

At least one minute, and sometimes over 5 minutes, so long that I reboot to recover from it.
