[solved] Install Emacs24?

Postby wvxvw on Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:54 am

Hello.
I would rather install Emacs24 than 23 because it is already stable (it was released about a month or so ago) and I actually used it on another distro - where it was fine.
How would I do it, granted I'm not really looking forward to compiling it myself (tried it before, and it's a fairly complicated program to compile yourself, unless you know the intricacies). Using testing PPA would be an option, though, if there is a DEB package available for download somewhere, I think I'd rather go with that option. I have Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon amd64 system.
TIA

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think this PPA provides what you need: https://launchpad.net/~cassou/+archive/emacs

To install Emacs24, open a terminal and do:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cassou/emacs
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install emacs24 emacs24-el

You may want to remove your old emacs version first.
