Curious Java Bug with Mint

Post by Francky la Hache »

I'm a Mint user since Bianca. 8)

But now I have a curious trouble, I don't kno whow to solve it.

I would like to use the software GeoGebra (or Geometria),
installation and run is OK, but I hava a bug tested with various hardware, and various Mint flavour,
(the bug is not present with LUbuntu for unknowed raison for me)

The bug is : in maximized windows of java apps, there are some troubles in right clicks and some menus.

My goal is to prepare quite old hardware 12 PC with light linux for my little young student (I'm math teacher),
so it would be glad if you could solve my problem, you'll make children happy, ... ready to play with geogebra.

I've tested openjdk 6 and 7 and also oracle-java, no differences. Bug with all mint flavour.
I've tested with LUbuntu 12.10 beta, openjdk7 (default), basic install, and no problem.

I prefer install a fast/light Mint flavour, but without the bug, how could I do ?

Thanks in advance.
(Is there other Mint users of GeoGebra here ?)

You might be better asking at http://www.geogebra.org/forum/
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

Done, I come here after that !

It's not geogebra related, it also happen with Geometria, another java app.
I don't know other java app, but it could happen too.
It's Mint related, as the bug don't appear with LUbuntu 12.10 beta.

Just let a try and you'll see.

install geogebra package.
Launch it.

With right click, you can enable/disable grid and axes.
Maximize the window.
You can't.

Other same troubles with sub-menu of icons. (when window is maximized)

No trouble with Ubuntu (nor LUbuntu).
Same trouble with geometria (another java apps).
So it's not geogebra related.

My conclusion is :
there is a problem with Mint (mate, cinnamon and lmde) and Java apps in maximized window.

I tried with openjdk6, 7, and oracle java.

Is someone have an idea on how to solve the bug ?

That was fixed in muffin (since version 1.1.1):

http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/?p=216

Make sure to use cinnamon 1.6.1 or later if you upgrade to muffin 1.1.1.

I have the very same problem but with Mint 14 with Mate.

I am unable to use the menus with mouse in maximized windows (tried with josm and jdownloader).

Here is a list of java packages i have on my system:

Code: Select all

ii icedtea-7-jre-jamvm:amd64 7u15-2.3.7-0ubuntu1~12.10.1 amd64 Alternative JVM for OpenJDK, using JamVM
ii openjdk-7-jre:amd64 7u15-2.3.7-0ubuntu1~12.10.1 amd64 OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT
ii openjdk-7-jre-headless:amd64 7u15-2.3.7-0ubuntu1~12.10.1 amd64 OpenJDK Java runtime, using Hotspot JIT (headless)
ii openjdk-7-jre-lib 7u15-2.3.7-0ubuntu1~12.10.1 all OpenJDK Java runtime (architecture independent libraries)
Is there a fix?

Thank you in advance.
