I've currently installed Photoshop CS2 but its riddled with problems and rarely works, is there a way to install it safely? does adobe offer any of thier products for linux? I've looked but haven't seen much passed OSX.

I was just wondering because i use PS alot and I hate switching from Mint to XP just so i can start a project.

The best way is to run an XP machine through virtualbox or something similar.
And don't forget to write to Adobe and saying:
Hey! I use this great product of yours, but now I run Linux, would you consider releasing a verion for that as well, sincerely yours, bla, bla, bla.
The later is something that you should always do when you miss a particular application from your former OS.
Otherwise, take the time to learn Krita and/or the Gimp, with time and practice they are both extremely powerfull tools.

Well VMWare is available for Linux if you like that, but my money is on VirtualBox

cl0ud_nyn3,

If that is the only program that you are having a problem with, have you considered learning to use Gimp?

I know that it isn't quite as capable as Photo Shop, but it is a lot more capable than most people give it credit for. There is really not much that you can do with Photo Shop that you can't do with Gimp these days. There is a learning curve but there was also a learning curve with Photo Shop too.

Just a thought,

Fred

I feel your pain with having to boot to XP just to use Photoshop. There are only two applications I ever boot into XP for anymore, and one of them is Photoshop. I have been trying to force myself to use Gimp as much as possible, but as has been stated already there is a learning curve, and sometimes I get frustrated. When that happens I find myself booting into XP to finish things up. Eventually my skills will improve with the Gimp, but for right now I have to admit I stink at it.

Pretty much just backing up what everybody has said here. Really try to learn to use gimp, it is a pretty good application and does 90% of what photoshop does and it's free! I haven't tried krita but I've read good things.

Also if your really hard up for Photoshop, I recommend using an older version like cs1, from my understanding it works really well under wine and for the most part, it's very similar to cs2. But, I understand your gripe for cs3.

On the brighter side google is funding a project to bring cs2 for linux. From my understanding they way they run google earth now (via a wine port) will be the same manner that you'll be able to run cs2.
