LM14RC (Mate 64bit) Truecrypt install/labelling issues

Postby MrD on Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:13 pm

I installed LM14RC (Mate 64bit) last night, it's fully updated. Nice clean install, although my password isn't coming up for running software manager or from resume so I'm looking into that.

I just went to install Truecrypt (64bit version) which I had on my HDD. In properties it's selected to run as an application. I double clicked and I got the usual popup with "run" as an option, which I picked but nothing happened. Nothing in Hardware Monitor either suggesting it was running. I ended up having to use "run in terminal" and I was then able to install. This may possibly confuse a lot of people.

When installed and mounting a container, in Nemo it doesn't label as "Truecrypt" like LM13/Nautilus did, it comes up with a label saying the size of the container. Is it meant to label as such? I got it confused for an inserted DVD at first, since the container was that size.

I had the same problem in LM13 Mate 32-bit, until I also invoked it from the terminal.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the Mint terminal isn't called 'xterm' -- which is what the TrueCrypt setup script appears to invoke.

Cheers!

SOLUTION:

I am running Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon and ran into the same problem. After googling around, this is the solution.

1. Mount your truecrypt container as usual. The mounted volume will show something like "10Gb Filesystem"
2. Menu > Preferences > Disks
3. In the Disk utility window, left column, under "Other Devices", you will see 2 entries looking like this:
10Gb Block Device
10Gb Loop Device
4. Select the "Block Device", now look on the right section of Disk Utility it will show the volume you selected
5. Click on the setting icon (looks like 2 cog-wheels), then select "Edit Filesystem Label"
6. Enter a label and click "Change" button. You then need to enter your password to authenticate this change.

That's it. Next time you mount this truecrypt container, the label is still there.
