Nemo hangs, LM14-x64-Cinnamon

Hi

I have real issues with Nemo hanging on file transfer (Both on a desktop and a Notebook) - even after a fresh install. Fails more times than it works over a Samba connection. Also hangs copying disk to disk and also to/from USB. There is no way to abort the copy other than kill the process.

Other Nemo Gripes.
1. The Computer group does not now include the user directories, Downloads, Video etc.. They now appear in Bookmarks.. These get lost in my other bookmarks and is a real pain in the ass..

2. If you change ownership from a command-line 'chown' of a directory and its folder/contents that nemo has open, Nemo crashes and dissapears.

3. Sometimes when you invoke a copy of files, the transfer dialog does not appear and nemo hangs.

4. The custom zoom settings do always not get applied - especially on the file listing. I have to continually go and manually set the zoom level which is sending me nuts.

--

Why change a working system.. I cannot do squat with a broken file manager.
Just should have kept the old nemo, changed the panel colours and added the buttons to the ribbon/tool bar. woulda worked great.

I do not need a workaround for these issues as I am now forced to revert to LM13 till you get it all stable - I just wasted 2 days upgrading everything and now another to revert.

Comment: You should have done more testing on a radical change/remodel to a fundemental part of the mint software.

I thought i was the only one having this problem.
Nemo freezes while copying files over network.

I have the same issue - though I am on Mint Nadia Mate, which I believe uses Caja...

. When I try to copy files from the NAS back onto the laptop the copying dialogue freezes after a few files and then cannot be stopped :-(
any way to solve this?
:-(

I have exactly the same problem. Please fix it or provide a workaround.

I am having the same problem on the 32 bit version of Cinnamon!

I just finished having to upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10, and I am already wishing I could go back. 90% of what I want a linux box for is file transfers and this pile of refuse we call Nemo is completely worthless and as such, makes is OS version useless.

I'm having the same problem with fully updated 32-bit Mint 14 (Mate) on a Dell Latitude D820. Dragging and dropping photos via USB from a Canon Ixus 230HS camera I get a copy process hang every few files - copying a couple of hundred has just taken me 30-40 minutes of manual operations. If you try to unmount the USB media you get a Volume is Busy from Caja.

I don't understand how an OS could be released with so little testing of such a common operation. It's very damaging for Mint's credibility - a new Linux user trying it for the first time would obviously walk away and probably tell their friends. Truly dismal.

I'm also noticing Nemo lagging and freezing. Specially copying over the network.
I have a Gigabit Switch and Router with Gigabit connections on my computers.
I normally copy files from my Fedora 8 Server to my Mint 14 32-bit computer with a Samba configuration.
But I get extremely slow speeds or freezing all together.
I hope Mint includes an update to fix this problem.

Also same problem here,
Start copying files from a network share, and the progress bar doesn't leave 0 bytes.
Weirdest thing though, sometimes I can transfer files from a different directory, but not a particular one.

I noticed this problem started IMMEDIATELY after removing an old windows XP computer from the network, was that windows computer somehow doing something for the network?
It literally started this issue 30 minutes after the win xp computer was disconnected.

Everything has all been restarted etc.

I had to re-install Mint 14.
Since then I've had Nemo crash only a few times... so it is running fine now.
I have also applied some updates too.
I have been able to copy large directories with loads of files to and from my Fedora 8 server.

Nemo + Nautilus hang on SMB file operation, LM-x64-Cinnamon

LM15-Cinn-x64, LMDE201303-Cinn-x64

Nemo hangs on almost every file operation > 2GB to smb share.
Tested Nautilus yesterday on the LM15-> same result.

The windows share is on a win7 pro machine.

I've been doing samba the same way since Ubuntu 8.04

The name resolution is nice and snappy by making an entry in the /etc/hosts file
I plug in the authentication info on-the-fly in the pop-up window when mounting the share.
Have tried unmounting/remounting the smb share immediately before the file operation.

The share is behaving for all the other linux machines on the network.

This a 'Game Changer' for me... I have work to do, and I can't do it without a SOLID file manager!

I feel your pain man!
I finally built a new Fedora 18 server and still use SMB to share my games and files.
Yesterday I copied a 3 Gig file and nemo hanged right at the beginning.
Just nothing...
So I killed nemo and launched it again, then tried to copy and it worked fine.

Not sure what the problem is, but its getting annoying.
My windows machines have always connected fine to SMB shares.

Nemo crashes on Windows Network Open

LM14-x64-Cinnamon

Not just hangs, Nemo crashes when I click on the Windows Network icon.

Clicking on the left side sidebar icon named "Network" (in Nemo|View|Sidebar|Places), shows the Windows Network icon on the right. Double click on the Windows Network icon, and Nemo closes.

As a workaround I installed Gigolo from the repositories, which I've never had trouble with, and can see my other Windows 7 and 8 shares with no problem. The shares even show up in Nemo now on the left places column, and can be drilled into and files copied (largest was 1.1GB) without Nemo crashing. However, even with the shares presenting on the left, when I select Network, then the Windows Network icon on the right, Nemo crashes.

Mint (and Crunchbang when I'm feeling educable) are my go-to workstations. Gigolo works quite well on both so this bug is not a gamechanger, more of an annoyance.

Will be glad to post code if anyone thinks it might be helpful.

This also happens to me.

I can't believe it.

Can't even copy files from my backup computer to my laptop, freezes randomly.

Sometimes it makes it 5%... other times 40%... then 70 %... totally random and not worth a F%%%

I'm having same issue; 2 Machines, both LM15x64 -Cinnamon, 1x AMD and 1x i7 (both realtek 1GB nics),
using the intel, no problems, using the AMD, hangs when copying multiple files via SMB.
BUT if I copy directly to another HDD on the AMD no problem..
Figure that out.
Just found this, I wonder how may are using AMD because gvfs-smb has issues with AMD.

I just updated my Mint 14 and there were a few SMB updates.
I also copied some large folders this weekend to my Fedora 18 server and they copied just fine.

I am experiencing exactly this with the Windows Network causing Nemo to completely crash. I'm running x64 Mint 17 official release. I upgraded from Mint 15 and did not format my home partition but I did format boot and root. I can navigate to the windows shares directly with ip address or even name, but clicking on Windows Network or typing smb:/// in the address bar INSTA-Crashes Nemo.

So... 2 years and this is still an issue and no one from the dev team has bothered to chime in? Where does one go to provide bugs and contact actual devs? I assume they want things like this fixed. Perhaps I assume wrong?

I am on Mint 17 now as well. Upgrade from Mint 16.
I'll let you all know if this continues to be a problem.

Hi, I have the same problem. My desktop PC is 4C,4GB,1Gb network with LM17 64bit Cinnamon Edition, connected to my home server Centos 6.x 64bit. When I open the smb share on my server in the nemo by command smb://192.168.0.1/data and I start copy the file to the share, the network speed is about 20-30MB/s, and the copy process very often freeze. But when I mount manually the same share from CLI (mount -t cifs -o username=me //192.168.0.1/data /home/me/data), the network speed is 90-99MB/s and it copy without problems. I was on the Mint 13 till Mint 17 was released and in the version 13 was copy process OK (except speed, it was somewhere about 45-60MB/s). Something strange happen in Nemo.
