Chromium "Aw Snap" crashing

I've installed Chromium from Synaptic on Mint LXDE # 10. It seems to crash as soon as I try to go to almost any web page. If it's all text, Chromium may hang in there a few minutes, but if the page has any graphics, it's purple screen city for me.

I had this briefly on a new install of Sabayon, but somehow it was fixed by an update. Not sure if that's relevant, just throwing it out there.

Any help appreciated.

this version is obsolete since last april; it won't receive any further update and it's considered unsupported.
you should consider update to a new release:
- mint 13 is lts and supported until april 2017
- mint 14 (just released) will be supported until april 2014
