Openoffice stopped working/installing.

I have recently installed linuxmint 4.0 KDE.

I wanted to upgrade openoffice to version 2.4. I downloaded the debian version, and deleted all references to openoffice (via rm etc) I could find on the harddrive.

I now cannot reinstall openoffice (via adept) , or run the update (dpkg -i *.deb results in lots of file missing errors).

There has to be a way to resolve this problem, without needing to reinstall linux.

I am a linux newbie, so I will need simple instructions on what to do.
