[SOLVED] LM13 Cinnamon says it's Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS

Postby caribriz on Thu Jan 10, 2013 5:57 pm

Hi,

On my LM13 Cinnamon (1.4), the System Settings > Details > Overview screen logo has suddenly changed from Linux Mint to Ubuntu:

Has anyone else experienced this?
How do I get the Linux Mint logo back?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Check that the following files have the matching text, or else replace the text with the ones below. You'll need to edit files as root, which you can do with:
Code: Select all
gksudo gedit filename

The files to check:
  • /etc/issue
    Code: Select all
    Linux Mint 13 Maya \n \l
  • /etc/issue.net (no trailing newline)
    Code: Select all
    Linux Mint 13 Maya
  • /etc/lsb-release
    Code: Select all
    DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
    DISTRIB_RELEASE=13
    DISTRIB_CODENAME=maya
    DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 13 Maya"

Thanks for your reply, xenopeek.

I checked those three files and they already contain the same text as you posted.

Found where to replace the logo.
/usr/share/gnome-control-center-ui/UbuntuLogo.png

As root, I replaced the image "UbuntuLogo.png" with the Linux Mint logo (from my other LM13 Cinnamon install) - but keeping the image name "UbuntuLogo.png".
(In the default install, the Linux Mint logo image is named "UbuntuLogo.png" - they have just replaced the image.)

Beside the help xenopeek/Vincent was providing, some background info for you.

Linux Mint is Ubuntu-based. So this means that your Linux Mint 13 version is basically Ubuntu 12.04 and they are both LTS versions (LTS = Long Term Service).
So, it's not such a shocking thing to find out when your Linux Mint 13 mentions that it's Ubuntu 12.04.1. Mint is based on Ubuntu.

I realise that Mint 13 is based on the equivalent LTS version of Ubuntu - been using Mint (and Ubuntu) since Helena.

But the change of logo when I clicked on System Settings > Details screen was a surprise - I've never experienced it before and
when I last went to that screen it had the Linux Mint logo. So I don't know what happened to change it - I certainly didn't.
I'm still wondering why it changed by itself and if anyone else has had it happen to them.

Regardless, I now have the original Mint logo back.
