(CLOSED) ubuntu one fails to open in linux mint 13 cinnamon

I have just installed (or failed to install) ubuntu one client on linux mint 13 using this command i found on a helpful website http://www.noobslab.com/2012/11/install ... -mint.html

"To install Ubuntu-One client in Linux Mint 13 'Maya' open Terminal (Press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy the following commands in the Terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuone/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-client ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk ubuntuone-client-proxy

That's it, enjoy"

Well I can't enjoy it because when i click on the ubuntu one icon it fails to open.

Any suggestions please?

I'm back again, and this is the result I got:

That shows that for some reason ubuntu one client was not installed. however ubuntu one is in the mint repositories and can be install directly from
synaptic package manager.

go to menu>addministrative>synaptic. Then do a search for ubuntuone-installer install that and it should work for you.

the installer is already intalled, it shows as green in synaptic manager with a tick in it. Not working at all and now I'm afraid I've messed things up

ok this was successful. I got the gui and started the installation. But the install stopped at this point:

So each time I try the installation from the gui, I get this message.

the repository mirror your trying to use must be down or having problems.

here's what you can try:

go to synaptic click on the settings tab then on the repositories down near the bottom of the dialog box there is a line that says
Download from click on that a select a different mirror one closest to your location is usually best.

then refresh the files by clicking on reload.
then try installing again.

I have looked in the synaptic package manager and found only one mirror for the UK which I was already downloading from. However, I reloaded the package information under the Edit tab and closed the window. Then I tried the installation again from the desktop, and still i had the same results of fetching unsuccessful that I showed you previously. Will I lose all my photos I uploaded because of this?

no you shouldn't loose any of them and we should be able to get it installed.

Ok try this

in a terminal type the following commands one at a time you can copy and past them from here

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update

after that try installing ubuntuone-installer again. see if it works.

ok i have done as you asked, and i ran Ubuntu Instal from desktop again, and this was what I got this time.

The following packages have unmet dependencies; ubuntuone-client-gnome: Depends: lib nautilus-extension1a (7=1:2.91) but 1:3.4.2-Oubuntu is to be installed.

Does this mean anything?

I have noticed in the software manager that ubuntuone-client-gnome is in there but it hasn't been installed, if that's of any use.

ok debbie I think at this point we better get you back to a clean install and try again

go to synaptic again click on settings and go to repositories then other software uncheck the boxes that say launchpad ppa/ubuntuone ppa or something similar to that

then exit that and click the reload button in synaptic next search for ubuntuone and remove any packages installed that say ubuntuone.

Then just re-install ubuntuone-installer it will pull the other package it needs.

sorry this is taking so long but doing long distance is sometimes difficult.

I removed the ppas, just two files, then I refreshed and removed everything that was ubuntuone in synaptic; I restarted the gui and tried the Installation. About 3/4 the way through it asked for my password and then started to reinstall but more gradually this time. Then with no warning whatsoever the window shutdown on me. Now when i try to run it, I see the circle go around and around until it stops and gives up.

it sounds like the system is very unstable for some reason, I can only guess at this point what might be the problem.
give me a little more info on the machine your using speed,ram , video card ,etc.

I'm guessing at this point that it's not really up to running cinnamon 3d you may want to try 2d.

I have decided to give up on Ubuntu One, sadly. The only option for me if I'm to get my precious photographs back is to reinstall Ubuntu. Maybe then I will use something like Dropbox
which I can use with either distro . Hopefully.

I have ubuntu one working of 3 Mint Machines here. but I find I use Dropbox more anyway it's just easier for me.
Also use spideroak you may want to check that one out also.
