Chromium not installing (can't fetch problems)

Hello,

Just done a clean install of Mint 13 xfce. I'm trying to install chromium (which was fine on same machine on its previous installation of Mint 13) and I'm getting the following message:

W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/ ... 1_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]

I've tried to install through synaptic and by adding ppa but same result both ways.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

the servers are not responding,, 404 error.

you can always go directly to Chrome website, download chrome and install.

Any difference between chrome and chromium? I'd prefer to be less google if that's possible.

I did download chromium yesterday from another website (http://download-chromium.appspot.com/). I unzipped the contents and got what's shown in the attached photo - don't know what to do next however?

Why did this work and not the install from the repository?

you did installed from the repositories with the command above you just need to tell apt to update: it was still looking for the chromium-browser available when mint 13 was released (may last year), since then chromium was updated several times and the url apt was looking for was not there anymore
this way we updated apt and it could find the new url
