Microphone not working In Skype on Linux Mint 13 Mate 32bit

I have installed Linux Mint 13 Mate 32bit and I'm having trouble with my USB microphone in skype. Sound keeps going off and so have to reconfigure the sound settings everytime I want to use it.BTW the USB cam is flickering too :( :( :(
